- Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus Will Have An Alternative Narrative - October 27, 2023
Studio Remedy Entertainment is riding high off the anticipated launch of its latest game, Alan Wake 2, but it affirmed its plans to support the game with new content and additions after release.
In particular, the developer confirmed that players will be rewarded for dipping back into the game, once a planned “New Game Plus” option is added.
In a post on the official Alan Wake 2 account on Twitter (also known as X), Remedy confirmed that the game will receive a New Game Plus (or “New Game+”) update sometime after launch day (October 27, 2023).
What’s In Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus?
In keeping with the tradition of single-player titles featuring a New Game Plus mode, Alan Wake 2 will have incentives for players to revisit the game after they’ve completed it.
Once it is added, New Game Plus will allow an Alan Wake 2 player to start over, but retain all of their unlocked weapons and upgrades.
The same update will also introduce a new, optional “Nightmare” difficulty level catering to players who seek a stiffer challenge. Most interestingly for players enamored of the Alan Wake series’ focus on narrative and fiction, the Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus mode will feature a new “Alternative Narrative”.
What exactly this means is unknown, but Remedy confirmed that the alternative narrative will include new manuscript pages and video content to explore and experience.
The original Alan Wake was an Xbox 360 game first released in 2010. Mimicking the structure and conventions of a thriller television series, Alan Wake followed the eponymous novelist on an adventure in the United States’ Pacific Northwest.
Visiting the fictional town of Bright Falls, Washington, Alan attempted to discover the truth behind his wife’s sudden disappearance, only to find himself experiencing events from the plot of a novel that he couldn’t remember writing.
Thirteen years later, Remedy Entertainment returned to the series, adding a more horror-oriented angle and adding a second playable character, FBI Agent Saga Anderson.
Alan Wake 2 launches on October 27, 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store. New Game Plus mode will be added after launch.
