The cyborg super soldiers of NIKKE are about to meet the android super soldiers of YoRHa. Developer Shift Up has announced that a limited-time crossover event between its mobile shooter RPG Goddess of Victory: NIKKE and Yoko Taro’s action RPG saga NieR: Automata will begin next month, on September 1, 2023.
The developer first teased the crossover with a post on Twitter in April 2023, though it did not communicate any further details about the event at the time.
Now, with the launch date scheduled, Shift Up has revealed a teaser trailer for the NIKKE and NieR Automata crossover:
The brief CG teaser trailer shows glimpses of NieR Automata characters like the Machine Lifeform Pascal, and two of the game’s protagonists, YoRHa No. 2 Type B (a.k.a. 2B) and YoRHa Type A No. 2 (a.k.a. A2).
2B is shown exchanging blows with Rapi, a Nikke cyborg, and a member of the player’s “Counters” squad.
Shift Up also released a piece of promotional art showing off 2B, A2, and Pascal rendered in the NIKKE art style alongside Rapi and her fellow Counters members Anis and Neon.
Rather than her usual melee weapons, 2B holds a firearm, the signature weapon used by NIKKE characters.
Released in 2022 on mobile devices and later on PC, Goddess of Victory: NIKKE has some commonalities with NieR Automata that would make a crossover event sensible. Both games feature dystopian settings and star female soldiers fighting for humanity against an implacable alien foe.
In NieR Automata‘s case, the Androids of YoRHa war against the Machine Lifeforms in an attempt to retake Earth. In NIKKE, cyborg soldiers called Nikkes fight for the Ark, the last, underground city that safeguards the remnants of the human race against the alien robotic Raptures that have taken over the surface.
What will the NIKKE x NieR Crossover Event Add?
Though Shift Up has not formally announced the full details of the event, the probable result will be the addition of playable characters from NieR Automata to NIKKE‘s roster.
These will most likely include 2B and A2, who could appear on the game’s microtransaction-based gacha system. It’s also possible that one of the characters, or a different one (maybe Pascal) could be made earnable by players participating in the event.
The NIKKE x NieR event isn’t the first crossover the game has hosted. In February 2023 the game ran a limited-time crossover event with the anime series Chainsaw Man.
The event featured a bespoke storyline starring Chainsaw Man characters entering the NIKKE world, and gave players a chance to obtain playable versions of Devil Hunters Power and Makima, with Himeno being available as a free giveaway.
Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is available on Android and iOS devices, with a PC version downloadable from the official website. The NIKKE x NieR Automata event will commence on September 1, 2023.
