I don’t know about you guys, but there is nothing quite like gaming paraphernalia that makes me part with my hard-earned cash. Whether it’s a replica figurine, a cute plush, or a fancy new controller that I don’t need, I’ll always fork over the dough. Well, it seems my wallet is destined to be empty again, as Sony reveal a limited edition Spiderman 2 Ps5 console, ahead of the web-slinger’s new adventure releasing on the 20th of October 2023.
I know you are already imagining how this Spiderman-themed console would look beside your TV, so here’s the promotional material showing off the symbiote-influenced design:
Breaking Down The Design
Firstly, let’s take a look at how this slick design came to be. If you have been following this modern Spiderman story on PS4/5, you’ll know that Marvel’s Spiderman ended on a little bit of a cliffhanger, with Harry Osborne all but revealed to be this Spiderman Universe’s iteration of Venom. This is a wild change of pace, considering that Eddie Brock is the Marvel character we usually associate with Venom.
So off the back of that bombshell, Marvel’s Spiderman 2 aims to make the otherworldly symbiote virus a key part of the narrative for this second outing, and the same can be said for the design of this new console.
Regarding the blend of the classic red and white Spiderman colors and the Venom-inspired Tendrils, Jacinda Chew, the Senior Art Director for Insomniac, had this to say:
“The design was inspired by the in-game symbiote that’s taking over the console and controller, but you can still see some of the underlying red under the tendrils… This represents the various ways players will experience the symbiote takeover in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It’s a constant push and pull for dominance whether it’s internal or external and the outcome is not certain.”
The Spiderman 2 Ps5 Limited Edition Dualsense Controller
The controller is a beautiful piece of kit that masterfully blends the classic red with the veiny black tendrils of the symbiote virus. Working from left to right, we have a slick matte black overlay that offers a distinguished and professional look to the controller.
In the middle, we have the modern Spiderman insignia emblazoned over the Dualsense touchpad. Then on the right, we have a splash of red, representing Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ fight to maintain their true self when in contact with the symbiote.
Then the cherry on top for me personally is the contrast between the black directional buttons and the white action buttons. Overall, a very classy and on-theme controller.
The Spiderman 2 Ps5 Limited Edition Console/Console Panels
Then we have the Spiderman 2 Ps5 Console design, which essentially mirrors the design present on the controller.
You have a perfect 50/50 split between good and evil in this case. You have the bold crimson red representing our duo of web-slinging heroes, and then you have the ominous, quite frankly terrifying sentient symbiote working to engulf the entire console in black tendrils. Then, you have the Spiderman insignia in the bottom-right corner, of course.
With the controller and console in your possession, you’ll almost be as cool as emo Tobey Maguire in Spiderman 3. Almost.
Availability And Cost
The good news for Spidey fans is that you won’t have to wait too long before you can pre-order these goodies. Pre-orders for the Spiderman Ps5 bundle will open up on July 28th, 2023, and naturally, this will ship on the 20th of October, 2023 along with a copy of Marvel’s Spiderman 2.
Not to mention that you don’t have to purchase the whole bundle if you don’t want to. Fans will also be able to purchase the controller separately, and will also be able to purchase the Spiderman 2 PS5 Panels separately. Although we would all love an extra PS5, it’s perhaps not the most realistic option for most gamers out there.
I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like ordering this is an inevitability. Stay tuned to RPG Informer for all your RPG-related news!
