Yakuza: Like A Dragon Gaiden Daidoji Faction Details Revealed

Publisher SEGA and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have revealed more details about Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name to the Famitsu magazine.

These new pieces of information introduce members of the Daidoji Faction and flesh out the relationship between Kazuma Kiryu and Akame.

Akame is a jack-of-all-trades residing in the city of Sotenbori in Osaka. Kiryu meets her by chance while performing tasks for the Daidoji Faction.

With an information network set up by the homeless – similar to John Wick’s Bowery King – Akame holds various insights into the underworld of Sotenbori.

Kiryu becomes entangled with Akame, assisting her in solving everyday problems in the underworld, such as poverty, and accepting risky missions that others would readily decline. Their relationship evolves as they interact, revealing a drama between the two.

The Mysterious Daidoji Faction

After faking his death, Kazuma Kiryu assumed the codename Joryu and joined the Daidoji faction, a name that first appeared in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. We have already been introduced to Kihei Hanawa, Kiryu’s. The new details present other members of the Daidoji, such as Yoshimura, the Boss, and the Head Priest.

Yoshimura is described as “a cog in a cold-hearted and unfeeling organization.” Incredibly ruthless and wickedly loyal to the faction, Yoshimura places Daidoji’s interests above all else and does what is necessary to complete missions, resorting to violence as an answer to any question. His devotion conflicts with Kiryu, as the protagonist is less committed to the faction than Yoshimura.

The Boss is a mysterious old figure who operates in the shadows and wields significant influence within the Daidoji Faction.

He demands that Kiryu fulfill his obligations as a member of the Daidoji. Finally, there’s the Head Priest, one of the few in the faction that Kiryu trusts. He’s detached from the mundane world and enjoys playing Go all day.

A New Spinoff with an Old Protagonist

After Yakuza 7 transformed into Like a Dragon and shifted the mainline gameplay to turn-based, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio created a new spinoff titled Like a Dragon Gaiden, which brings back the old protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, along with the fast-paced beat ’em up gameplay that the franchise has been known for all these years.

The story is a direct sequel to the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and aims to show what Kiryu was up to during the sixth title and the first Like a Dragon.

The spinoff Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will be shorter than a mainline game, but it will still have enough content to satisfy the old and new fans.

For those interested in the mainline series, the upcoming game in the franchise will be Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which will continue the story of Ichiban Kasuga, who will collaborate with Kazuma Kiryu in an unexpected partnership.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is set to release on November 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
