Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners Crossover Guide: Time to Return to Night City

You Say Cyberpunk I Say Edgerunner

The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Netflix show hit me right to the core of my soul. I’ll spare you from spoilers, but by the end of David Martinez’s Cyberpunk journey, I was fired up, ready to take Arisaka down once again.

CD Projekt Red has released many updates for Cyberpunk 2077 in the past year and a half releasing modding support with Cyberpunk RED, new content, and bug fixes. To celebrate the launch of Edgerunners, the Polish RPG game development company released an Edgerunners update that features content that ties in with the show.

Can you believe it? it’s been two years since Cyberpunk 2077 was released; where has the time gone? Many are happy that the turn of the 2020s has long gone, and dare I mention the pandemic?

Cyberpunk 2077 had a rough launch, to say the least, and while I was betting on CD Projekt Red to come through with the same quality as the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, sadly, I was wrong. however, while the gaming industry has continued to move forward, so has CD Projekt Red and Cyberpunk 2077.

So without further ado, let’s activate our Sandevistan, wipe the floor of Arasaka Corpos, and put Adam Smasher in the ground for good!

Bottom Line-Up Front

I’ve included all the important details of the Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners update here If you’re too busy chasing down Delamain taxis and neutralizing Cyberpsychos Bladerunner style.

If you’re an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 user, then you’re out of luck, as the 1.6 Edgerunners update is the last update for this generation of consoles. If you have upgraded your console, you can transfer your save file across platforms thanks to the 1.6 Cross Progression update.

The Edgerunners update introduces quality-of-life features and a few fun extras to Cyberpunk 2077. The Transmog Wardrobe is stand out from the Photo Mode update and the Roach Race Arcade Game as it allows you to switch out V’s outfit for items that have better stats and effects without having to change V’s style.

  • Wardrobe Update
  • Cross-progression
  • Nibbles and Photo-Mode
  • Arcade game: Roach Race

The Edgerunners update added a new selection of firearms and melee weapons into Cyberpunk 2077. I’m more of a handgun and shotgun kind of player so the Tsunami Kappa Smart Pistol was my favorite of the new weapons.

Melee weapons don’t really interest me, but the Neurotoxin Knife and Punknife stood out to me as fantastic knives to throw at Malestrom thug’s heads, as the Punknife will return to V once thrown at its target.

  • VST-37 (Power Shotgun)
  • MA70 HB (Power Light Machine Gun)
  • Kyubi (Power Assault Rifle)
  • Hypercritical Iconic Precision Rifle
  • Kappa (Smart Pistol)
  • Senkoh LX (Tech Submachine Gun)
  • Neurotoxin Knife (+ Iconic variant Blue Fang)
  • Punknife (+ Iconic variant Headhunter)
  • Claw (Axe)
  • Razor (Machete)
  • Cut-O-Matic (Chainsword)

These additions all enhance Cyberpunk 2077; however, the Edgerunners-inspired content is where the real eddies are for this update. I had a ton of fun scoping out the locations featured in Cyberpunk Edgerunners in Cyberpunk 2077.

It’s possible to follow the paths the characters take in the show in the game, such as David Martinez walking to Metro: Wollesen St station from his apartment in Santa Domingo in the pilot episode. Or visit the location where the Cyberpsycho was killed during the opening scene and of course, the Afterlife where David enters the big leagues in Night City.

You’ll be able to get your hands on the following unique Edgerunners items in the update:

  • David’s Jacket: Acquired by obtaining the Over the Edge Side Job from David’s apartment in Arroyo Santa Domingo at the Megabuild H4.
  • Guts Shotgun: A Power Shotgun that once belonged to Rebecca can be acquired by searching the bushes in the Memorial Park in Corpo Plaza.
  • Prototype: Shingen Mark V: A Smart Submachine Gun that is a splitting image of the submachine gun that Rebecca dual wields in Episode 7. You can acquire this weapon in the metal container at the northwest entrance of the Arisaka Industrial Park, where V must break into to install a virus onto a float in the Gimme Danger main quest.

Cyberpunk Edgerunners Crossover Update

If you have watched Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, then you’ll be familiar with David Martinez, the main character of the show, Lucy David’s girlfriend and Netrunner of Maine’s crew. The update adds content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and a much-needed quality-of-life update.

CD Projekt Red has cleaned up the game nicely and fixed many bugs. However, many nails must be hammered in before Cyberpunk 2077 is fixed. Now and again, I’ll encounter an odd glitch like Evelyn floating around Judy’s BD studio or a Sandevistan bullet-dodging Malstrom thug T-posing in between dodging a barrage of bullets. (It was like he was mocking me).

But for the most part, Cyberpunk 2077 is a lot more playable than it was two years ago, and the 1.6 update has a long list of small fixes to the UI, quests, gigs, open world, and weapons that improve the quality of life in Cyberpunk 2077.

The 1.6 update also swaps out the Hasten the Inevitable and Neurotoxin Ninjutsu perks with Corrosive Poison and Critical Antidote perks to streamline and rebalance the skill tree.

  • Corrosive Poison: Poison deals 20% more damage, V can now poison Drones, Mechs, and, Robots but at a reduced rate.
  • Critical Antidote: Throwing a Knife as a strong attack at a poisoned enemy will remove the poison status and deal poison damage in one attack it also increases the Critical Chance by 100%.

Cyberpunk 2077 Wardrobe Update

Starting off with the Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners update, we have the Transmog Wardrobe update. This is a big one considering Cyberpunk 2077 is a lot about roleplaying and building V into your own character. In this update, the player can save their favorite outfits without swapping out clothing for better armor and effects.

If you’ve played Cyberpunk 2077, you’ll know how much of a blessing this is. There are many strange outfits and clothing in the game. For example, I just found a sweet leather jacket, boots, and rugged trousers for my Mad Max-inspired Nomad V.

But then I loot a neon pink jacket that must be made out of Adam Smasher’s armor plating as its armor rating is through the roof. But with the new update, I can equip this absurdly loud-colored jacket, and all my Aldecaldo Nomad friends will be none the wiser.

Nibbles and Photo-Mode

To be expected, Night City is void of animal life; in the lore, 90% of all animal life has been wiped out due to the collapse of the ecosystem. Not to mention the government of Night City had to wipe out birds due to a type of dangerous avian flu.

The Cyberpunk 2077 world is a terrifying one where temperatures in Sciliy and Malta surpass 140 degrees Fahrenheit which equates to 60°C! as heard from an in-game news report.

V can adopt Nibbles in Act Two, the cat first encountered outside of Viktor’s clinic and later seen accompanying V and Takemura on the construction site in the Gimme Danger Gig. Interestingly Takemura explains that the cat may be a Bakeneko or Nekomata spirit in Japanese culture that have supernatural powers of shapeshifting and raising the dead.

Considering V and Johnny Silverhand’s predicament, it’s quite on the nose. Moreover, Johnny Silverhand can be seen rolling off a wall at the construction site and followed by Nibbles. (maybe it is a spirit!)

You can unlock Nibbles in Photo Mode by completing the following steps:

  • First, the player must advance the story to act 2 and acquire Cat Food which can be purchased from Vendors and acquired at Aldecaldo’s Camp.
  • Travel to V’s apartment in Watson and walk left down the corridor. You will see a trash can containing the “feed teh cat” Data Shard and a food bowl.
  • Fill the food bowl with cat food and return to V’s apartment later to adopt Nibbles.

Once adopted, Nibbles can be found inside V’s apartment, and Johnny Silverhand can be seen interacting with him. Nibbles the cat isn’t just a static object, just like V you will be able to change the pose of Nibbles so that you can produce the “purrfect” picture. Here are my attempts to mess around with the new Photo Mode update.

Cyberpunk 2077 Cross-Progression

It’s unfortunate that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles will no longer receive Cyberpunk 2077 updates and it’s agreed around the board that the game should never have been released for the last generation of consoles.

CD Projekt RED hasn’t completely thrown these console users under the bus as the 1.6 update introduces a cross-progression feature that allows players to transfer their saves from one platform to another.

This is handy for players that own a Steam Deck and want to take their adventure in Night City on the go but can still carry on where they left off on their PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series consoles.

With this new update, your autosaves and manual saves will be uploaded to the cloud once you’ve logged into your account.

Arcade Game: Roach Race

Night City is filled with arcade machines from Little China all the way to the Sunset Motel on the edge of the Badlands. So it makes sense that the player could interact with at least one of these machines.

The Cyberpunk Edgerunners update introduces Roach Race, a playable arcade game to Cyberpunk 2077. Roach Race refers to the glitch in the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, where Roach could sometimes spawn on a roof when called.

In the game, the player takes control of Roach jumping over obstacles and avoiding Griffins and Crows while collecting apples and carrots for bonus points. It’s worth giving this mini-game a go because ranking on the leaderboard will reward you with bonus Eddies.

Rank number one on the Roach Race leaderboard, and you will win the Roach Whisperer Outfit. A Cowboy or Cowgirl-looking outfit, complete with a cowboy hat, brown boots, and a black leather jacket, can be found in V’s apartment.

The Roach Whisperer Outfit description in-game references the buggy vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077 and the Roach roof glitch in the Witcher.

“Top prize in the Roach Race arcade minigame. Your car ended up on some roof? Call it with style.”

There are five Witcher-inspired levels in Roach Race featuring Cyberpunk 2077-inspired retro-remixed Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt soundtracks.

Witcher-inspired levels
  • Kaer Morhen
  • Novigrad
  • Crookback Bog
  • Ard Skellig
  • Isle of Mists

Each level gets progressively harder as Roach’s speed increases and more Griffins, Crows, and obstacles appear. Roach can Jump, Double Jump, and Glitch to avoid obstacles. The Glitch turns Roach invulnerable for a couple of seconds and teleports Roach to the ground. You can Glitch as often as you like; however, Roach’s invulnerability will need to recharge.

New Firearms and Melee Weapons

Of course, there is more to the Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners update than mini-games and kitty-cats. The update introduced a bunch of new firearms that can be purchased at Vendors across Night City.

  • VST-37 Pozhar Power Shotgun
  • Midnight Arms MA70 HB Power Light Machine Gun
  • Kyubi Semi-Automatic Power Assault Rifle
  • Hypercritical Iconic Precision Rifle
  • Tsunami Kappa Smart Pistol
  • Senkoh LX Tech Submachine Gun
  • Neurotoxin Knife (+ Iconic variant Blue Fang)
  • Punknife (+ Iconic variant Headhunter)
  • Claw (Axe)
  • Razor (Machete)
  • Cut-O-Matic (Chainsword)

The Kyubi’s bullets can ricochet off surfaces and makes for a great stealth weapon when a Silencer and Scope mod is attached. You can purchase the Kyubi from vendors all across Night City, Japantown, Biotechnia Flats, and Kabuki to name a few.

I suggest the Hypercritical Precision Rifle if you want to pop some heads as it deals 200% bonus damage to Critical Hits but requires 15 Body for optimal use. It can be acquired in the Concrete Cage Trap Gig.

The Tsunami Kappa Smart Pistol stood out from the rest of the new weapons, maybe because my V specializes in handguns or maybe because it has the ability to target two enemies at once, (Requires the Smart Link Implant to be utilized). The Kappa Smart Pistol has a small chance of dropping from Sasquatch so save your game before taking him on.

Cyberpunk Edgerunners Netflix Series Locations

Bringing Night City to life was one of CD Projekt RED’s goals when developing Cyberpunk 2077 to ensure that Cyberpunk Edgerunners captured the same feeling CD Projekt RED worked closely with Studio Trigger to recreate the same locations within the scenes of Edgerunners.

A crossover and story of David Martinez ties into the main story of Cyberpunk 2077 since the events of Edgerunners took place a year before V and Jackie Welles stole the Biochip from Arasaka in Konpeki Plaza.

As a result, players that have sunk hundreds of hours into Cyberpunk 2077 roaming Night City completing NCPD Scanner Hustles and retrieving the Sentient Delamain taxis for the Delamain AI will recognize a lot of locations background locations in Edgerunners.

If you’ve got a photographer’s eye, you can recreate frame-for-frame scenes from Cyberpunk Edgerunners with the Photo Mode in Cyberpunk 2077. Check out my attempts below.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners update adds content inspired by the show to many of these locations, and V will be able to get his hands on iconic items from the show, such as David Martinez’s Jacket.

Get David Martinez’s Jacket

I took these screenshots outside David Martinez’s apartment in the Megabuilding H4 in Arroyo, Santa Domingo district. You can’t directly go into his apartment, but you can find a Braindance Headset close by marked by a hidden Side Job marker.

The player will find the Braindance in a trash can next to a wall marked with the Edgerunners logo that David Martinez sprayed onto his jacket. The braindance will play the opening scene of Edgerunners with an ominous warning to all those that install too many implants into their body.

Watching the Braindance will prompt the Over the Edge Side Job, where the player can acquire David Martinez’s Jacket. The job is simple, message Muamar “El Capitán” Reyes about your find and wait twenty-four hours. Falco, a character in Edgerunners, will contact V claiming that V and David Martinez have a lot in common and will give coordinates to David Martinez’s Jacket.

David’s Jacket is a Legendary Upper Torso item that not only provides good armor for V but also reduces the Stamina cost of attacking and blocking melee attacks. The Jacket is customizable, featuring two mod slots, making David’s Jacket a powerful item to acquire.

Get Rebecca’s Guts Shotgun

Rebecca is loud, funny, and a gun nut. She loves nothing more than pulling the trigger and unloading bullets on whoever gets in her way. If you’ve played Cyberpunk 2077 recently, then at some point, you will have stumbled across Edgerunners content, but have you found Rebecca’s Guts Power Shotgun yet?

cyberpunk get rebecca's guts shotgun

at the start of Episode 7, Rebecca can be seen dual-wielding Guts Power Shotguns. This is hilarious, as when you get your hands on this monstrosity of a shotgun, you’ll realize one is more than enough!

The Guts Power Shotgun model isn’t identical to the shotgun seen in the show, but its description confirms that it belonged to Rebecca. The Guts Power Shotgun has a spread of twenty, and each murdering piece of metal ricochet off surfaces making this shotgun an overclocked mess of destruction (fitting for Rebecca).

The Guts Shotgun will deal bonus Chemical Damage to the target, has a slight boost to Crit Chance, and a significant boost to Crit Damage. If that wasn’t enough, it has a small chance of poisoning the target.

V can acquire Rebecca’s Shotgun in the bushes behind the monks at Corpo Plaza in the City Centre, where giant holograms of Koi Carp fish can be found. You won’t have to root around too much as the weapon is tagged by an orange legendary loot marker.

The Guts Shotgun is deadly at close-mid range and will knock enemies to the floor; very handy for countering enemies using melee weapons. I rank it as one of the best and most fun shotguns in the game, I love how the Guts shakes your entire screen and pulls you back with recoil as it giving it a raw and powerful feel.

If an enemy survives a blast from this sucker and chemical DOT, they won’t be surviving the second I can guarantee you that. Using the Guts, I cleared an entire gang of Tyger Claws in a matter of minutes on Hard difficulty. However, the Guts has an awful reload speed, and you’ll have to time your shots not to get overrun carefully.

Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners

I acquired the In Your Face Annihilation perk to reduce the reload speed of the Guts Power Shotgun by 20%. However, as you can see from the video the reload speed is still awfully slow so I suggest the Mongoose perk Annihilation perk as this mitigates 25% incoming damage while reloading Shotguns and LMGs.

For those wondering how the hell Rebecca can even fire one Guts, shotgun let alone two, she is equipped with Cyberware implants that replace her hands to counter the recoil of the weapons she uses.

While it’s up to debate whether Rebecca used the Shingen Mark V Submachine Gun, it does look very similar to the gun she uses in episode 7. It’s a powerful weapon nonetheless, you can acquire it during the Gimme Danger Main Job in the Arasaka Industrial Park by sneaking into the container outside the northwest entrance.

However, I recommend infiltrating the building and then sneaking down the corridor heading west to avoid the patroling mech outside.

As long as V has the Smart Link Implant installed in his body, the Shingen Mark V bullets will home in on targets and explode. The gun deals bonus Thermal, burn, and Crit Damage and have a boost to its Crit Chance.

New Gigs in Night City

cyberpunk new gigs in night city

The Edgerunners update there are three new gigs for V to complete in Night City. Since these gigs are additional content, you won’t have to worry about completing them to unlock the achievements revolving around completing all missions in each district of Night City.

  • Concrete Cage Trap
  • Desperate Measures
  • Nasty Hangover

The Desperate Measures gig becomes available after completing the Ghost Town main job and revolves around V helping Pedro Aimar, a Zetatech Corpo, raise enough eddies from a heist to fund a full body conversion by a Soviet Ripperdoc. This is a great gig as it has parallels to the immortality theme of the main story.

In the Concrete Cage Trap V must escort Tiny Mike out of a building block in Kabuki as Militech wants him for stealing data in the Badlands. You can only acquire this Gig after progressing the main story to Act Three. For completing the gig, you will be rewarded with the Iconic Hypercritical Precision Rifle.

The Nasty Hangover is the final gig added in the Cyberpunk Edgerunners update and tasks V to retrieve a stole Kang Tao Shard for Karl Ginsky. In this gig, the player will be given the decision to either protect Karl or Kang Tao Agents. The player will be rewarded with eddies no matter which side they choose. You can find this gig in Santa Domingo.

FAQs

Question: Can I Get Jimmy Kurosaki’s Caliburn Car from Cyberpunk Edgerunners in Cyberpunk 2077?

Answer: The famous Braindance editor Jimmy Kurosaki made a big impression as a ruthless, creepy, and rich character that has beaten Night City it’s no wonder he owns the Rayfield Caliburn, the fastest car in Cyberpunk 2077.
You can purchase the Caliburn for €$127,000 after reaching level 40 Street Cred. However, you can get a black variant of the Caliburn for free at Nash’s Hideout in the Badlands after completing the Ghost Town Gig and reaching level 40 Street Cred, prompting the Murk Man Returns Again Once More Forever Side Job to start.

Question: Will there be a Second Season of the Cyberpunk Edgerunners Netflix Show?

Answer: No, CD Projekt RED confirmed that only one season was planned for Cyberpunk Edgerunners even after the first season’s success. (Spoiler Warning) If you’ve watched the whole ten episodes of Cyberpunk Edgerunners, you will know that David Martinez and his crew are killed by the end of the series. David and Rebecca were both killed by Adam Smasher.
The show was created to be a standalone ten-episode story with no plans for future stories. However, CD Projekt Red community manager Satoru Honma stated in an interview with Video Games Chronicle, “I personally would like to continue to work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback.”

Question: Is Cyberpunk 2077 Linked to the Ghost in the Shell Animated Film?

Answer: If you’re a fan of the Ghost in the Shell, then you may have noticed that CD Projekt Red included many references to the 1995 Sci-Fi animated movie, such as Judy’s shoulder tattoo and phone avatar of a cartoonish ghost wisping out of a shell.
Or maybe you spotted the uncanny resemblance between Lucy in Cyberpunk Edgerunners and Motoko Kusanagi, the main protagonist of Ghost in the Shell.
The references of Ghost in the Shell in Cyberpunk 2077 are nothing more than references as Mike Pondsmith, creator of the Cyberpunk universe, created the first Cyberpunk TTRPG in 1988, while the Ghost in the Shell manga was released in 1991, and the animated film later in 1995.
Moreover, Ghost in the Shell is set in Japan in 2029. Cyberpunk 2077 also features references to Bladerunner

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Cyberpunk Edgerunners update adds some much-needed quality-of-life bug fixes and features that make the player’s Cyberpunk 2077 experience much smoother. Generally, a game gets an update, and I help hazard scroll through the patch notes. Moreover, Steam has usually finished the update before I’ve even it’s had an update.

However, I had a blast discovering all the Edgerunners-inspired content CD Projekt RED added to the game. And although CD Projekt RED dropped the bar with the release of Cyberpunk 2077, the Edgerunners update is a textbook example of blending two forms of media and stories together.

The Cyberpunk Edgerunners Netflix show captures the dark Night City with all the landmarks that the player can visit in the game. It ties both stories together and enhances Night City for the player. Even though V’s story starts in 2077, the player already feels like they’re part of Night City following David’s story in 2076.

There’s a little something for everyone in the weapons update, and while I could take or leave some of the weapons, I know another player will use them greatly.

The Punknife, however, is an essential knife that all players should own if they use even a little bit of stealth in their gameplay. The automatic knife retrieval combined with a Sandevistan allows the player to take out an entire thug hideout in a matter of seconds.
