Hogwarts Legacy Daedalian Key Locations: Where to Find All Keys at Hogwarts

Hogwarts Legacy is one of the most magical open-world games, letting the player fully spend dozens of hours as a student at Hogwarts. I have wasted so much time doing side activities in this game, including finding all of the intriguing and difficult-to-find Daedalian keys. To help you out, I have compiled together all of the Hogwarts Legacy Daedalian Key locations below.

These keys are some of the most intensive side content you can find at Hogwarts. This game is full of secrets to explore and there are 16 of these keys for you to unlock throughout the game. With a special reward waiting for you at the end of the game, it may be worth checking out for some players. If you are a completionist or just a fan of wearing fancy robes, here are all the Hogwarts Legacy Daedalian key locations.

Bottom Line Up Front

Hogwarts Legacy has unique Daedalian Keys for you to find throughout the school’s grounds. These keys are floating ones that are hard to spot with the naked eye but make a lot of jingling sounds. If you find one and follow it, it will lead you to a chest that enters into.

The goal is then to use the key to open up the magical chest and contribute to the overall side quest you have. To find all of these there are a whopping 16 of them in total, including the tutorial key, that you need to find for the NPC character Nellie. This makes it one of the most extensive pieces of optional collectible content in the game.

How to Unlock the Daedalian Keys Side Quest

First and foremost before you can ever unlock all 16 of the Daedalian Keys in Hogwarts Legacy, you need to begin its associated quest. This quest is known as The Daedalian Keys and you can start it as soon as you enter Hogwarts and finish the Welcome to Hogsmeade main story quest that involves the magical town and your first actual boss battle.

After you return home to your dorm room and go to sleep, you now have the ability to access The Daedalian Keys side quest anytime you want. You’ll want to head to the Astronomy Wing of the school, with the closest fave travel point being the Floo Flame in the Transfiguration Classroom.

Right in this area is the NPC student known as Nellie Oggspire. Speak with her, and she will give you this side quest that will teach you all you need to know about these keys. Follow the linear tutorial that the game gives you through the beginning of this quest, and you’ll learn all about them.

After completing the first key objective, Nellie will set you off into the rest of Hogwarts to find the other 15 keys and complete this side quest. I should note that this side quest will not finish, and you won’t receive its ultimate reward until you find all 16 of the total Daedalian Keys.

General Tips

To help you out, here are some of the tips that I have come up with for players aiming to find all 16 of the Daedalian Keys all around Hogwarts. Though the actual act of unlocking each chest with the key is rather easy, finding the keys themselves can be a bit frustrating. Here’s what I suggest to help you out:

  • Put some headphones in or turn your TV up a bit. Especially focus on the sound effects volume in the menu. This is because each key makes a jingling sound when you’re close to it. The better you hear this sound, the easier it will be for you to find the key.
  • You can do most of the keys in any order you like, so I suggest exploring Hogwarts at your leisure and finding them as you go.
  • However, the final three keys are locked behind a specific part of the main story. If you have found a dozen of these already and can’t find the rest, chances are you need to keep doing the main story.
  • Don’t even waste your time taking each house token to the house chest when you get them. It won’t do anything for you until you get all tokens.
  • There is no rush for slapping the key into the magical chest. Take your time, read its pattern, and then move.
  • I always recommend slapping the key just before it reaches the middle. There is a slight delay between you pressing the button and the character actually hitting it so try to make up for this.

All Hogwarts Legacy Daedalian Keys Locations

There are 16 Daedalian Keys locations in total if you include the initial one you get from the tutorial part of the side quest. Below, I’ll be sure to break down the exact location of each key, where you can find it in the school, and even a screenshot to help you further locate it.

I went ahead and did this in no particular order outside of the final three since you can grab them whenever you want. Let’s take a look.

1. Astronomy Tower Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Transfiguration Classroom
  • Requirements: None

This is pretty much the tutorial key for The Daedalian Keys side quest. You won’t be able to find the others without first locating this key and finishing this part of the side story. From where you are talking to Nellie, head up the Astronomy Tower until you reach the top of the tower. Here, you’ll locate the first key right in front of you.

Most of the keys are pretty easy to get once you find them, but this tutorial one might be a learning process for you. What you want to do is follow the key as it flies away from you down the stairs. Keep after the glowing key and you’ll eventually reach a locked chest-like thing known as the House Cabinet.

Interact with the cabinet, and you’ll begin a weird minigame that is the other half of finding one of these keys. Fortunately, once you’ve done this one, you pretty much know what to expect from the rest. You’ll be facing the House Cabinet while the Daedalian Key flies around it.

Your goal is to time it right and smack the key into the keyhole at the right moment when it passes over it. I recommend watching the key for a few seconds, seeing its pattern, and then hitting it a split second before it goes over the keyhole; not while or after, as you may not be successful this way.

2. Defence against the Dark Arts Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Defence Against the Dark Arts Tower
  • Requirements: None

The next key that I think is relatively easy to find is to teleport or travel near the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. Right near the classroom is a rhino-like skeleton that is on display in this wing of the school. Near the back of the rhino is the key that you need to get for this next part of the collectible side quest.

As before, with the first key, your job is the same. The key will start flying away, and you have to chase it down as it guides you to the following House Cabinet. Once you get there, it is the same minigame as before, where you need to smack the key into place, and you’ll get the next House Token.

3. Potions Classroom Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Potions Classroom
  • Requirements: None

For the following key I recommend you get, I suggest heading to the Potions Classroom Floo Flame. If you don’t have this one yet, your goal should be to head to the Library Annex area of the school and then make your way over to this Floo Flame.

The goal here is to go through the doors that are near the classroom and start heading toward the bottom. You’ll find the next key along the way, which will guide you to the bottom of the staircase. This one is a straight shot down the stairs, so it’s easy to find. Everything else is the same as the last two.

4. Central Hall Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Central Hall
  • Requirements: None

This next key is, technically, in the Library Annex area, like the last one, but you are better off fast-traveling to the Central Hall Floo Flame if you can. This is because it is in a different part of the Annex that can take you a bit to find otherwise in this somewhat confusing part of the school.

When you arrive here, there are some stairs that go down a little bit and lead you to a large set of doors. The next key is right through here. Follow this key all the way to the other side of this large Central Hall area to find the next House Cabinet you need for this quest.

5. Central Hall Key 2

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Central Hall
  • Requirements: None

This key is a rather convenient one to the last one you just got, which is why I suggest you grab it next after completing the last one. Head back to the main part of the Central Hall, where you came down the stairs. Go back up this time and take a right towards the stairs that continue up to the next tower.

Instead of going up the stairs, though, go around them, and there is a little alcove hidden under the stairs. This is where the key is hiding, which you can now follow to your next destination to unlock the next House Cabinet and its associated House Token.

6. The Library Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Library
  • Requirements: None

Next up, you’ll want to fast-travel to the Library in the Library Annex part of the school. Within the beautiful confines of the Library and its endless bookshelves, you’ll want to turn right if you are arriving here from the Floo Flame. There is a little passageway that goes between the bookshelves here, which you should follow.

You’ll find the next key in the middle of this path, leading you to the next House Cabinet you need to find for this lengthy side quest. Do the same minigame to unlock the cabinet and get the House Token you’ve earned inside of it.

7. Great Hall Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Great Hall
  • Requirements: None

First, head to the Great Hall Floo Flame. When you arrive here, immediately do a 180 (if you fast travel here) and go through the large set of doors behind you. When you head through these doors, this will lead you to another part of the school where there are some paintings in front of you and a staircase.

Right by the staircase is the following key you need to find for this quest. Like the poor others before it, you can now follow it on its predetermined path all the way to the following House Cabinet, where you can claim your next prize.

8. Great Hall Key 2

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Great Hall
  • Requirements: None

This time, you want to fast-travel yourself back to the Great Hall, but we are going to take another direction this time. It is best to get this key and the one before it around the same time to save yourself some precious time since they are relatively close to one another.

There is a fireplace that is near the Floo Flame in the Great Hall here. Head towards it, and you will quickly see the key appear. Following the glowing key and it will lead you to your next House Cabinet destination, where you will be able to pick up the latest House Token.

9. Great Hall Key 3

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Great Hall
  • Requirements: None

Sorry to say it once more, but it is time to return once again to the Great Hall. This is the last one here, I promise. Your best bet for this one, which takes a bit of a trek compared to the others, is to fast-travel to this point and then immediately turn right from where you end up in this area.

On your right, there should be a large set of doors that you can pass through. When you get through here, go down the stairs to the bottom and then take a right into the path that you can take into the next area. In this large area, there is a statue near you, which has the key hanging out in front of it. Follow it as always.

10. Grand Staircase Tower Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Grand Staircase Tower
  • Requirements: None

Fast travel to the Grand Staircase Tower Floo Flame if you have it unlocked. When you arrive here, there is a staircase immediately near you that you can go down. Head down here, and on your way down, you’ll find the key hanging out by the bottom of the Grand Staircase.

This one will take you on a short journey around this area to the following House Cabinet, which is hanging out right around here. As always, this is the usual minigame, and then you’ll have yourself another House Token to add to the collection.

11. Faculty Tower Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Faculty Tower (The South Wing)
  • Requirements: None

If you have the Faculty Tower Floo Flame, that is your best bet for getting the following key rather quickly in the South Wing. As you arrive at the Floo Flame fast travel point, you’ll see an NPC near you that is named Gladwin Moon. On the right of him is a large door you can go through.

Head through here, and you’ll find some stairs you want to climb. On the second floor of this area, you’ll find the following key, which will, oddly enough, lead you back down and to the following House Cabinet for you to unlock.

12. Faculty Tower Key 2

faculty tower key 2 Hogwarts Legacy daedalian key locations

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Faculty Tower
  • Requirements: None

For the next one, we want to stick around in the Faculty Tower area of the map for a bit longer. If you are arriving from the Floo Flame itself or you go back towards Gladwin Moon, this time, you want to go through the doors to the right of him once again.

But there is a twist this time. Instead of heading up to the second floor, you want to keep going up until you reach the statue near the top of the stairs. Head left from the statue into the clock room area, and you’ll find the following key waiting for you in this well-hidden spot.

13. Bell Tower Courtyard Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Bell Tower Wing
  • Requirements: None

Fast travel to the Bell Tower Courtyard Floo Flame if you already have it. When you arrive at this spot, there will be stairs that are on your left side. Go up them, and it will take you to a door that is in front of you. Go through this door, and you’ll immediately find the next Daedalian Key waiting for you.

This key will then lead you on a bit of a journey back up the stairs and to the House Cabinet near the end of the path.

14. Clock Tower Courtyard Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: Clock Tower Courtyard (The South Wing)
  • Requirements: Alohomora Level 1 Lock Spell

Now it is time for the final three keys that you need to get for this quest. As mentioned, the last three are the ones that may stump some players if they haven’t progressed far enough in the main story yet. You need the base level one Alohomora lock spell for this.

Head to the Clock Tower Courtyard Floo Flame, and there will be a locked door on your left. Unlock it and take the stairs here up until you reach the top of the tower. When you arrive on this floor, the key will be to your left. Follow it as always to the next House Cabinet.

15. The Map Chamber Secret Rooms Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: The Map Chamber
  • Requirements: Alohomora

For this next one, head to the Secret Rooms where The Map Chamber Floo Flame is. If you have already been here before, this is relatively easy. As mentioned, you’ll want the Alohomora base spell for this part. When you get here, take a 180 and go up the stairs here.

This will lead you on a long path that will eventually take you to a gate. There are some stairs by the gate that you will need to take down and go through a long hallway, which leads you directly to the next key. The best part? There is only one more left if you’ve followed this guide.

16. Dragon Statue Secret Rooms Key

  • Nearest Floo Flame Location: The Map Chamber
  • Requirements: Alohomora

For the last and final key, you can get it as soon as you get the previous one. From where you found the previous key in that long hallway (follow the previous steps if you need to), you want to go back and go through this hallway all the way to the end of the path.

When you arrive here, you will find the massive and gorgeous sleeping dragon statue. The last and final Daedalian Key on the long list is waiting here for you. Nothing too special here, as you need to follow it to the final House Cabinet now to acquire the last House Token for this side quest.

Hogwarts Legacy Daedalian Keys Rewards

You might be wondering what exactly the point of all of this is in Hogwarts Legacy. After all, the rewards aren’t precisely immediate for you for each of the keys you find. Each key that you find in the game will grant you a single house token, and that’s it.

Unfortunately, that house token isn’t like a currency or anything like that where you can trade it in for specific items or something. Instead, it is like a marker for the collectible keys you are searching for. You won’t get a proper reward from this quest until you find all 16 of them. Once you do that, head to the house chest once more in your common room.

With all of the house tokens in hand, you can finally open up the house chest, and inside, you’ll find the Relic House Robe. This is changed depending on the house you picked at the start of the game, but it is arguably one of the best robes around.

In addition, finding all of the Daedalian Keys will help the players who are trophy and achievement hunters out there. While there isn’t a specific trophy or achievement for finding all the keys for some odd reason, this is a side quest that ties it into The Good Samaritan trophy. For that one, you have to complete all side quests in the game, including this one.

FAQs

Question: How do you unlock Daedalian Keys in Hogwarts Legacy?

Answer: You can unlock the Daedalian Keys in Hogwarts Legacy by first completing Welcome to Hogsmeade and then speaking with Nellie near the Transfiguration Classroom to begin the quest. The goal is to find each key, follow it to the nearby magical chest, and then slap the key when it goes over the keyhole.

Question: Where is the 16th Daedalian Key Hogwarts Legacy?

Answer: The 16th Daedalian Key in Hogwarts Legacy will ultimately depend on what order you go in. You can go in whatever order you want to so this will vary depending on the player. That said, if I had to guess, it would likely be one of the three Alohomora locked keys requiring the right lock spell to get to it.

Question: What is the reward of the Daedalian Key Hogwarts Legacy?

Answer: Each of the Daedalian Keys in Hogwarts Legacy rewards you with a house token once you find it. If you collect all 16 house tokens, including the one during the tutorial part of the quest, you’ll receive the Relic House Robe, one of the best-looking clothing items in the game.

How to Get All Spells in Hogwarts Legacy

As you can see, the Daedalian Keys are some of the most fun and accessible collectibles to find and unlock in Hogwarts Legacy. While it is quite time-consuming, it is absolutely worth it for arguably the best robe in this game.

But some players may find locating the Daedalian Keys annoying because you have to progress through the main story some more before you can get the final ones. Since you have to get pretty deep into the story to get the spell you’ll need for them; it can be frustrating having to wait.

That said, the Alohomora spell you need to unlock the doors for the final three keys is one of the most thrilling spells in the game since it opens up so many areas for you. If you want to learn more about how to unlock Alohomora’s various spell levels and all of the other spells in Hogwarts Legacy, our site has you covered.
