I loved Star Ocean The Second Story R. You can read me oozing heartfelt words over it in my review. The game kept the classic work untouched while adding some quality-of-life improvements that raised the experience to the next bar.
As a remake, however, people often wonder if there are new gameplay additions to the classic. There are a few, actually. We now have fishing, tough raid monsters, new gameplay mechanics, and the titular Unique Spots.
But, it’s up to the player to skim the world in search of these Unique Spots since there are no markers whatsoever indicating where they lie. So, if you want to avoid this hassle, keep scrolling to check my Star Ocean The Second Story R Unique Spots Guide to know exactly where you can find them.

What are Unique Spots
Unique Spots are landscapes, monuments, natural environment, and whatnot scattered worldwide in the game. They add facts to the lore, a bit of experience, and some neat items. A shining golden beam gives away whenever there’s an interactable Unique Spot.
There are 36 Unique Spots in all, distributed between almost every city, dungeon, and both planets’ World Maps. Some are pretty easy to find, while others had me repeatedly circling the world on my Psynard or fast-traveling to all the dungeons.
Moreover, there are some Challenge Missions that reward you according to the number of Unique Spots found, making the whole process even more valuable.

Unique Feature to the Remake
And that’s it, folks. The Unique Spots were a great addition to Star Ocean The Second Story R, even though some of them had me spending the night pondering how on earth I would find the ones that were missing if I had no clue where they could be.
There are many Unique Spots in the game that offer useful items, but I personally found the experience gained to be more rewarding. It was a great motivator for finding them, mainly since the experience gained wasn’t divided among party members like the one earned in battle. I hope you found this guide helpful, and thank you for choosing RPG Informer!

The rewards from the Challenge Missions are outstanding, mainly if you use Chisato in your party.
Question: Were there Unique Spots in the original Star Ocean The Second Story?
Answer: Nope. This is a new addition to the remake. A simple and elegant one, may I add.Â
Question: Is there a trophy for finding Unique Spots?
Answer: Yes, there is. One named Place of Interest, which you’ll probably get in the first hour of gameplay for discovering one Unique Spot.
