Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince All Mini Medals Location

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is a genuine Dragon Quest game, as obvious as that may sound. I believe it’s one of the JRPG franchises that truly encapsulates and reintroduces the same elements scattered throughout its gaming bible, such as monster design, spells, setting, and even the same narrative theme.

Since Dragon Quest IV—or the remake of the third entry—there have been Mini Medals, collectibles that confer rewards to those who find them. It’s a straightforward yet enjoyable scavenger hunt, with rewards progressively improving with the number of Mini Medals delivered.

The Dark Prince is no exception. The monster-taming game also features numerous Mini Medals scattered across all its areas, and those who collect them will be rewarded with items, accessories, and even rare monsters to aid in your monster wrangler journey.

So, join me in this guide for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince All Mini Medals Location, as I capture and present more than 70 screenshots with the whereabouts of these elusive collectibles.

What Are Mini Medals?

As soon as you arrive at The Maulosseum, on the counter to the left, there’s a Sugarstar Slime called The Medallist that rewards you as you deliver Mini Medals to them. The rewards are as follows:

  • 3 Mini Medals – Amulet of Immunity (Slightly increases defense and improves resistance to poison)
  • 5 Mini Medals – Sage’s Elixir (Restores 90 MP to a single ally)
  • 10 Mini Medals – Metal Slime
  • 20 Mini Medals – Pop Idol’s Scroll (Teaches the Pop Idol talent)
  • 30 Mini Medals – Liquid Metal Slime
  • 40 Mini Medals – Gold Badge (Slightly increases the amount of gold coins earned by defeating an enemy)
  • 50 Mini Medals – Metal King Slime
  • 60 Mini Medals – Gold Medal (Increases the amount of gold coins earned by defeating an enemy)
  • 70 Mini Medals – Loyalty Card (Entitles the bearer to a 20% discount when purchasing products from a shop)

I suggest grabbing at least 30 Mini Medals during your playthrough. The Liquid Metal Slime – with its immunity to almost all elements and the potential to learn Kaboomle – became one of my best monsters. Even though it’s Rank C, it accompanied me even in the post-game secret boss battles.

I say this because some Mini Medals can only be collected during the correct season, and waiting for time to pass might leave you bored. There’s an item called Seasoning that allows you to advance to the next season immediately, but it’s pretty scarce. However, in the post-game, you acquire a Four Seasons Flute, a key item that allows you to advance the season with a simple button press. It takes a while to get there, but it dramatically facilitates the hunt for Mini Medals.

Mini Medals Location

Initially, I would list the order of Mini Medals according to when I found them to function as a walkthrough according to the game’s main campaign progress. However, I lost some and had to backtrack to previous areas.

So, I decided to list them in the order the areas appear when activating the Zoom spell, starting from Terrestria and going up to the post-game secret dungeon.

Terrestria / Rosehill Tower – 1 Medal

I’m not sure if you can catch this from the start. But there’s a bookshelf behind Monty and his monster synthesis in the Rosehill Tower basement. You need to interact with the wall, and the man will give you the Mini Medal after a trivia. It only works if you’re in the Terrestria tower.

Paddock – 3 Medals

I’ll owe you a more in-depth explanation, but at certain points in the story, or maybe after scouting a certain number of monsters, the Paddock expands, adding up to 3 Mini Medals to be collected.

The first medal is in the bottom right corner inside a pot. If it doesn’t appear at the moment, progress further in the main campaign.

(Winter required) The second medal is on an island in the top right corner. You can only reach it in winter because the lake is frozen. If it doesn’t appear now, come back later.

The third medal is in a pot near some steps in the top left corner. The last expansion of the Paddock is required. I only managed to grab this one by the end of the game.

Diabolic Hall – 1 Medal

After Zooming to the Diabolic Hall, enter the room to the west to reach the Gaol. The pot with the Mini Medal will be in the third cell on the north side.

(Spring required). A bit northeast of the Grimglow Cave entrance, there’s an interactable object during spring, indicated by a pink icon. Clicking on it will gently fly you to an isolated area in the southeast part of the map. A chest with a mini medal awaits you under a tree.

The fourth Mini Medal can only be acquired after completing all the Shrines of Power and defeating Dolph. It’s in a pot slightly east of the Conqueror’s Keep entrance.

(Summer required). Zoom to Molten Mesa and cross the wooden bridge. In this area, there’s an interaction on the map with the summer icon. Approach it, and the rocks will explode, revealing a chest with the Mini Medal.

The following two are inside the Sepulchre of Flame. The first one is in the corridor east of the map, where I placed the red circle.

The second is hidden in a corner in the northwestern part of the dungeon among four pots. You will naturally pass by the nearby corridor toward the boss.

Zoom to Cubic Quarry and walk to the southwest part of the map. A treasure chest awaits you.

The next two are in the Dragonspate dungeon. The first one is in a pot near one of the pillars on the first floor, easy-peasy.

What’s easy in the first one is complicated in the second. This dungeon has a rotating platform that defines the entire puzzle. To get this Mini Medal, you need to reach the fifth floor. Then, align the platform as shown on the map and go up to the sixth floor.

On the sixth floor, mess with the first tile until the platform allows you to reach the exclamation point to the south. Go to it and step on the tile again until the puzzle’s position matches the map. The Mini Medal is on an isolated piece of land to the south.

Circle of Indulgence Lower Echelon – 3 Medals

(Spring required). Right in the center of the map, there’s an interactable floating flower during spring that takes you to a chest with the Mini Medal. You need to come from above and descend to the ledge below. If it seems like you can’t cross due to another flower, insist that it works.

In the town of Honeyton, pay a visit to the northernmost house in the east corner and be rude by breaking the pot and netting a Mini Medal.

(Winter required). All lakes will be frozen, and the one you want is to the south, near the Honeygush Geyser Zoom spot. I’ve drawn a red line showing the path you should take to reach the chest with the Mini Medal.

(Autumn required). To the south of the Gazebo du Gâteau entrance, there’s a circular landmass. In autumn, giant pumpkins create a staircase to a chest containing a medal.

In the Gazebo du Gâteau, look for a pot behind the donut throne.

In the Dessert Dungeon, you’ll start on the second floor. So slide down to the first floor and then return to the second since it’s the only way to your goal. Once you return, look for a bunch of ice cream balls serving as a stand near a room to the northwest. Inside the room, you’ll find the medal.

The next one is on the exterior rim of Battenburg. Simply walk to it.

The following three Mini Medals are in Battenburg. The first is found in a pot in the northeasternmost room on the first floor.

As soon as you reach the third floor, go down the corridor and all the way to the end. A breakable pot can be found in the south corner.

This one is quite tricky. In Flan Foyer, there’s a minigame that involves enlarging or shrinking the flans to propel you to other platforms. It’ll be easier to explain since you’ll mandatorily need to learn the puzzle to proceed in the dungeon.

To make it more manageable, use the map to guide which flans you should change. The two to the north should be large, while the two to the south should be small. Then, position yourself on the blue platform next to the southwestern flan and jump forward. If done correctly, you’ll land on the blue platform on the east side, near a chest.

From the Ancient Ruins entrance, go south to find a well. Drop down to get the Mini Medal inside.

(Winter or spring required). From Pierre’s home, go southwest to find a pot in the sand. In summer or autumn, a mound of sand will hide the pots.

(Spring required). To the northeast of Pierre’s home, there’s a small lake. You can jump on the water lilies in spring to reach a cave. Follow it to the top until you get to a broken stone platform. Drop down to another platform to find a pot with the medal.

The following Mini Medals are in the House of Shifting Sands. This dungeon sucks. I feel that if I try to guide you in detail, I’ll confuse you more than help. So, I’ll be lazy and ask you to kindly navigate using the map.

You can grab the first Mini Medal as soon as you enter the dungeon. Go to the room to the west and head to the corner, as shown on the map.

The second Mini Medal is on the first floor, but you need to go to the second floor initially. Then, you can descend in two ways: jumping into the hole, which is the lower red circle, or going down the stairs, which is the upper red circle.

If you choose the stairs, you must cross a rocky arch to reach the southern room and grab this sneaky medal.

The third Mini Medal in the dungeon is the easiest because you’ll inevitably pass through this corridor on your way to the boss. Just pay attention to the pots on the way.

This one is in the northwestern corner, near a rotating water puzzle. By default, the path should be unobstructed, and you should be able to cross it. If, for some reason, it’s not, adjust the puzzle until the water drains.

Slightly south of the Rosehill Tower is a small house and a pot with the Mini Medal.

(Summer required). The most practical way to get here is to defeat the big hitter and Zoom to the Fort Nox entrance. The gate will be open, so exit through it and go to the west part of the map. You need to jump into the air duct to reach a high ground. Jump into a hole and find a chest with a Mini Medal.

Circle of Fortitude Upper Echelon – 3 Medals

While this medal is near the Bastion’s entrance, you can’t reach it through it. You have to enter a giant pipe that I marked with a blue circle on the map, climb the stairs, and then drop down to a ledge to find the chest marked by the red circle.

Inside Barbatos’s Bastion, there are a lot of treadmill-like puzzles. In the first floor’s southwestern corner is a chest beside the arrows. You don’t need to step on any of the tiles. You can just stick to the wall and grab the medal in the chest.

There’s a chest in the northwestern corner, also on the first floor. You must step on the fourth arrow, indicated by a thin blue circle in the screenshot. You’ll slide toward the chest.

Congratulations, you managed to snag 70 mini medals, unlocking all the rewards! Apparently, the game offers more than 70 coins in total, but there’s no need to collect more than that. Unless, of course, the developers drop some updates for The Dark Prince, and I’m forced to swing back here and revise the guide. Please don’t update the mini medals.

Mini Medals Galore

Phew, that’s it! As I mentioned at the beginning, I don’t recommend going after all the mini medals from the get-go unless you have a lot of spare patience or want to scout all the monsters in a particular area before moving on to the next.

After collecting 30 Mini Medals, the reward starts to alternate between a Metal Slime or an accessory that boosts the Gold earned. While all of them are good, they aren’t strictly necessary for a casual player. So, I reiterate my recommendation to grab just one Liquid Metal Slime and leave the mini medal collection for the post-game after acquiring the key item that lets you change seasons at will.
